Improvisational melodies and rhythms will flow during our Yoga Freedom practice every morning on the Island as Brian guides us musically, subtly interacting with the rhythms of the asanas. Part two of the workshop with Deborah is 2.5 hours and participants will have 30 minutes to walk in the natural surroundings of the island and collect materials that have called to them to create their mask. Essential Oils

Queen of the Distant Essential Oils, Lands Forgotten, Unearthed, Brought Back to Life by Daria Romaniello

According to the translation of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts, priests and physicians were using extracted oils from plants for healing thousands of years before Christ. This makes essential oils the earliest known medicine. Highly revered, the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt routinely exchanged Blue Lotus Oil with the kings of India for slaves, gold and other precious goods. And so it is, essential oils were at one time in history considered more valuable than gold. The Egyptians created fragrances for personal use as well as for ritualistic and ceremonial use in temples and pyramids. According to the earliest historical records available, they used balsamic substances with aromatic properties for medicine. Egyptian high priests used fragrances for opening the subconscious mind and increasing their ability to communicate with the spirit world.

Creating Prayer Flags

Creating Prayer Flags with Patricia Kambitsch

For thousands of years, humans have been painting colorful cloths decorated with sacred symbols and hoisting them high in the air. In the Tibetan tradition, prayers are blown by the wind, spreading good will to all in the surrounding space. In this session, we will create prayer flags by decorating colorful fabric panels with painted personal symbols of good fortune, health, compassion, and strength for ourselves, the land, and for our island community.  A ritual flag raising, intended to bless the land, air, water and living things on the island, will close the session.  Participants will leave with a prayer flag of their own creation.

SUNDAY: 12:00pm - 2:00pm

A Tool for Transformation and Healing

Mandala: A Tool for Transformation & Healing by Linda Kaban

Mandala means sacred circle. The Tibetans and Navajo Indians create mandalas out of sand which are used in spiritual rituals and then swept away to honor the impermanence of life. It is an ancient tool used by cultures the world over to aid in quieting our 'monkey' minds and help focus our attention on the here and now. In our workshop we will create a mandala using colored pencils, black ink, or sand, as intricate or as simple as your spirit moves you. Afterwards we can participate in a circle where everyone will be given a chance to share their experience of creating a physical expression of their inner journey.
